We’ve all heard about the benefits of raising your heart beat and getting a sweat on in the gym. Classes like hot yoga are booming due to the benefits of working out while the body is hot.
You may be grateful you can head to the gym for your workout while the streets are freezing and the show is falling.
However this cold weather could give your workouts the edge. Why not step out of the gym and exercise in the winter chill for a change. You could see big improvements.
Scientists in the Netherlands1 have found that the colder temperatures could increase your metabolic rate by five times. Your body has to work extra hard just to keep you warm as well as dealing with the functions and movement of your chosen exercise, whether that’s a trail run, road run or outdoor boot camp.
Other studies have found that workout in colder weather can help develop more brown fat tissue which is proven to keep obesity at bay.
Give it a go and you could find you really love it. It’s certainly bracing and it’s not all about the gym workout.
