Do you know what to wear to the gym? For practical purposes or aesthetics, picking the right thing to wear to the gym can help lift your confidence. In this blog post, we’ll provide you with a practical guide on what to wear to the gym, ensuring you look and feel your best while crushing those fitness goals.
Clothing & fabrics
Opt for breathable fabrics. When it comes to gym attire, breathable fabrics are your best friend. Look for materials like cotton, bamboo, or moisture-wicking synthetics that allow air circulation and wick away sweat from your body. This will stop you from getting cold, or from feeling damp.
Avoid overly loose or baggy clothing that may get in the way or cause accidents. On the other hand, tight, non-stretchy clothing can restrict your movement and affect your range of motion. Find the balance that allows you to move freely without feeling constricted.
Wear jackets and layers
During summer you may not want to carry a jacket around but throughout other parts of the year, this is recommended. The gym aircon might feel a little cold before you’re warmed up and leaving the gym when you’re sweaty or post-shower can leave you feeling cold. Layers are important as you can remove them as you heat up during your workout. A base, sports top and then a sports jacket are a really good foundation. In really cold months you may also want to throw joggers on over your shorts or leggings.
Footwear
Different activities require different types of footwear, and everyone’s feet are different! Not really very helpful and it does mean you’ll have to try on several pairs to find ones that are comfortable for you. You want to prioritise support and choose footwear designed for your preferred workouts, such as running shoes, cross-trainers, or weightlifting shoes.
Supportive garments
If you need a sports bra, make sure it’s a well-fitting one. Sports bras are important as they provide the necessary support and reduce breast movement during exercise, preventing discomfort and potential damage to breast tissue.
Other undergarments should be moisture-wicking and minimise chafing.
Express yourself
Everything so far has been about function, but don’t forget about your personal style. Choose colours and patterns that make you feel confident and motivated. If bold leggings call to you, wear them. If a motivational slogan keeps you pushing yourself, wear it. When you feel good about what you’re wearing, it can boost your mood and enhance your performance. Plus, if you worry about people staring, if you feel great at least you’ll know what people are looking at 😉
Feel confident
Dress comfortably for the exercise you’re doing. You don’t need to keep up with fashion trends, but if you’re comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing, then you’re more likely to feel comfortable in the gym.
