Milly Pang is a dedicated member of Anytime Fitness Southport. However, like many of us, Milly has previously struggled to find the right balance in lifestyle and form a healthy relationship with exercise due to the difficulty of finding the right gym.
This was not Milly’s experience when attending her previous gym. Lacking that supportive touch, Milly felt embarrassed when using the equipment and not looking like your typical gym goer.
Having felt “extremely anxious when joining other gyms due to the fear of looking stupid and the fear of judgement from other people”, Milly certainly is not alone in this feeling.
Understandably, Milly wanted to feel as comfortable as possible when working out and she was struggling to find this on her search for the right gym. Feeling ‘ashamed’ and ‘embarrassed’, she felt like it was ‘all eyes were on me’ at previous gyms, restricting herself to only use the treadmill as its where she felt safest.
After a break and a back-and-forth relationship with exercise, Milly once again took the initiative to sign up to some gyms but unfortunately, nothing stuck. However, this all changed when she came across the Anytime team at Southport who were instantly welcoming towards her.
Finally finding a place to train, Milly said:
“Anytime Fitness has helped me to overcome my fears as I have finally found a community that will support me in my health and fitness journey. The community within Anytime Southport is amazing and I’ve found friends within the gym that I can now exercise with and that will support me whenever I do feel anxious during the gym.”
On the environment and feeling within the club, Milly added:
“When I joined Anytime Fitness in Southport it was automatically different, there was a smaller group of staff who clearly cared about the gym and the people. The gym is now an unmissable part of my daily life and makes me feel like I have achieved something for the day because I have made the effort to even go.”
Having become more toned and stronger since regularly attending Anytime Southport, Milly is not only physically stronger but mentally stronger too. Becoming ‘mentally resilient’ and challenging herself to see the results.
Milly has clear future targets and would love to achieve her goal of doing a pull-up as well as helping to inspire others to get involved with the gym. Milly is enjoying the benefits that Anytime Fitness provides and when asked about what she’d say to other people who were previously in her position, she said: “To people who feel uncomfortable, anxious, or reserved about exercise and the gym, the most important thing is finding a gym where you feel there is a safe and comfortable environment. Once you find that, then the journey truly begins and Anytime Fitness was the start of that journey for me.”
